Saints Sweep Women's Track & Field Honors

04/02/2013 – Emily Smith and Micaila Rice were honored by the WHAC for their fine performances at the Grand Rapids Open hosted by Aquinas College.

Smith, a senior from Port Huron, had a big day to start the 2013 outdoor season. The senior broke the school record in the Hammer and provisionally qualified for Nationals with a mark of 50.18 (ranks 8th nationally). Smith also hit the automatic qualifier in the Discus with a 45.64 (#3 all-time at AQ and ranks her 3rd nationally). Smith also hit the "B" standard in the shot as her toss of 13.14 placed her at #2 on the Saints All-Time list and ranks her 13th in the NAIA.

Micaila, a freshman from Schoolcraft, had a busy day on Saturday at the Grand Rapids Open. After winning the 100 meters in a time of 12.92, she anchored both the 4x200 and the 4x100 meter relays to first and second place finishes respectively.

Micaila, Emily and the rest of the Saints will return to action on Saturday at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State.
