Saints Finish 3rd at NWLL Championships

04/21/2013 – Aquinas places third at championship with upset victory over second seeded, Robert Morris.

The Eagles trailed the entire first half, but closed in on the Saints, 9-8, toward the end of the first thirty minutes. A final goal by the Saints would give Aquinas a 10-8 advantage over Robert Morris.

Aquinas' offense exploded in the second half. The Saints used an 11-1 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead. The Eagles scored back-to-back goals to stop the running clock, but Aquinas put one more on the board for the 22-12 final.

Haley Jacob and Lauren McCarty each had five goals for the Saints on the day, while Courtney Wheelock added four.

Mary Prunte led the Eagles with six of the team’s 12 goals on the day and Quintina Mengyan had 11 saves.

Aquinas takes home a third-place finish at the Championships, while Robert Morris earns the fourth-place overall finish. Lauren McCarty and Alexa Burns both represented Aquinas College on the All-Tournament team.
