04/24/2013 – Caleb Teachout, Alvaro Romero and Lindsey Karpowicz were all honored by the WHAC for their performances on Saturday. The Saints competed at the Al Owens Classic on the campus of Grand Valley State. In all the Saints compiled 27 personal bests, four automatic qualifiers and a pair of additions to the top-five lists.
Teacheout used a strong finishing kick to claim top honors in the men's 800 meters. Caleb's time of 1:52.55 automatically qualifies him for the outdoor championships at the end of May. Romero recorded the top jump in the country and the third longest in Aquinas history as he traveled 24-0.75. Alvaro claimed first place in the long jump and hit the "A" standard in the process. Karpowicz hit the automatic qualifier in the women's discus. Lindsey's toss of 146-7 placed her third at the meet and is the seventh farthest throw nationally.
Alicia Dorko tied her school record in the pole vault (11-10), while Marika Rietsema recorded the second highest vault ever for Aquinas at 10-10.25.
Other fine performances were turned in by Micalia Rice and Britta Patterson. Rice won the 60 meters in 7.97, while Patterson claimed top prize in the 5000 meters (18:05.15).
The Saints will return to action on Saturday when they host the Ernie Mousseau Track & Field Classic at Houseman Field.
