05/02/2013 – The baseball team defeated Northwestern Ohio and then lost a heart breaker to Madonna 5-4 in 11 innings. The Saints are now 24-19 and will play Davenport in an elimination game today at 3 p.m. The contest will be played at Farmer's Athletic Complex.
The Saints started the WHAC Tournament with an all-around solid effort. Pitching, defense and timely hitting enabled the Saints to defeat the Racers 4-1. Vince Misiewicz notched his fifth victory of the season as he scattered six hits and allowed one run in seven innings of work. Tyler Cole closed the door on Northwestern Ohio by pitching two perfect innings.
Nick Kissane and Michael Penny both collected three hits, while Taylor Pawlanta singled home two runs in the eighth. Elliot Drain continued his hot hitting as he pushed across the winning run in the fifth inning.
The second game of the day pitted the Saints against regular season champion, Madonna. Aquinas jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings as Nick Kissane and Elliot Drain both connected on run producing singles. The Crusades battled back and used a three run fifth to gain a 4-3 advantage. Aquinas found the equalizer in the eighth as Elliot Drain once again came through in the clutch. The two teams battled until the 11th inning before Madonna finally claimed victory 5-4.
Kaleb Ort struck out 13 and gave up three earned runs and five hits during his seven innings of work. Brendan Penny was credited with the loss as he surrendered the winning run in the 11th inning.
