06/03/2013 – The first spring installment of the NAIA Learfield Director’s Cup standings have been released and Aquinas is currently in 17th place with 454 points. This set of standings includes all sports except for baseball and softball. Oklahoma Baptist currently holds the top spot with 961 total points.
The Learfield Director’s Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports - six women's and six men's.
The Saints received 70 points for their top eight finish in men's tennis, while the men's and women's track & field teams accounted for 100.5 points based off their performances at the NAIA National Championships in Marion, Indiana. The men's soccer, men's & women's cross country and men's & women's indoor track & field also added to the final tally with their finishes in the fall and winter seasons.
Aquinas remains the highest WHAC institution in the Director's Cup standings. Indiana Tech is currently in 21st place with 432.75 points, while Cornerstone checks in at #31 with 325.50 points.
The final standings will be released on June 12th.
