07/14/2013 – The Aquinas College Athletic Department welcomes Marliss and Charlie Tapp to the fold as the duo has been chosen to take over the reigns of the men’s & women’s bowling programs. The institution’s newest sport offering is entering its second year of existence and is very excited to have the Tapp’s wearing the maroon of Aquinas College. Athletic Director Terry Bocian comments, “We are excited to have Charlie and Marliss Tapp heading our men's & women's bowling programs. They bring experience, outstanding teaching skills and a high level of character to Aquinas College.”
Marliss Tapp, a member of the Kalamazoo and the Michigan Bowling Hall of Fame’s, states, “I am very excited for the opportunity to coach such a young program. We have a great group of student-athletes and I cannot wait for the season to begin.” Marliss was a former member of the LPBA (Ladies Professional Bowling Association) and is a three time Michigan State Senior Queen Champion and a nine-time Kalamazoo Queens Champion. Marliss was also a member of four USBC (United States Bowling Congress) Ladies National Championship squads.
Charlie Tapp, Marliss’s husband, has been a member of the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) since 1978. Charlie has garnered three PBA National Tour Titles, two PBA 50 Senior Tour Titles and three PBA Regional victories. Charlie was also recently crowned the 2012 Michigan State Senior Masters Champion. Charlie, who has bowled a total of 37 perfect games, comments, “I am looking forward to the challenge of a new season. With the core of new young talented bowlers we should be much improved over last season.”
