09/17/2013 – Aaron Hendrick's victory over teammate Kristoff Saari in the singles championship highlighted the Saints weekend at the ITA's.
After winning five matches a piece, the Aquinas duo of Aaron Hendrick and Kristoff Saari squared off in the All-Saints regional final. The three-day tournament started with 64 single players from 13 different NAIA institutions. Hendrick, who has been a bridesmaid in this tournament the last two years, defeated his younger disciple 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the NAIA ITA Fall Championship. This marks the second time that a pair of Saints have battled for the individual crown. The first occurrence took place seven years ago when the finals at Cedarville University saw Rose versus Bruining in the title match. Aaron will travel to Fort Meyers, Florida for the Fall Championships in October.
The top men's double team of Hendrick/Saari advanced to the quarterfinal round before bowing out, while the combination of Peter Tratt and Gunnar Perry picked up a pair of wins before falling in the Consolation Draw's Championship match.
The women's side of the championships saw Aquinas' Lauren Ramey advance to the regional semifinal match before being defeated by Indiana Wesleyan's Rachel Bottorff. Ramey then teamed up with Rilie DuShane to pick up three victories in doubles. The pair of Saints would fall in the tournaments semi-final round to the eventual doubles champions.
Both squads will be back on the court this weekend to continue their fall schedules.
