09/21/2013 – The men's soccer team rattled off three unanswered goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat Northwestern Ohio by the score of 3-2. The victory improved the Saints record to 8-0 on the season and to 1-0 in the WHAC, while the Racers fell to 4-1-2 overall and to 0-1 in the conference play.
This match-up featured two unbeaten squads, the game marked the first conference game of the year and both teams were looking to gain the inside track to the WHAC title. Early on it was all Northwestern Ohio as goals by Kallqvist and Royo gave the Racers the 2-0 advantage. A converted free kick by Juan Torres cut the lead in half at during the 34th minute. For Torres it was his second goal of the season.
Trailing 2-1 much of the second half, the Saints continued to focus on executing and looking for their chances. Opportunity arose during the 79 minute of play as Michael Gagnon knotted the match with his first goal of the season. Aldony Mendez was credited with an assist on Gagnon's goal. A little over a minute later it was Peter Brandenburg, who scored the eventual game winner on a set up by Jonathon Spencer.
Craig Demshuk was the keeper of record and earned the victory as he was responsible for four saves.
The Saints will return to action with a home match versus Cornerstone (5-2, 1-0) on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
