CRYSTAL LASKA Head Coach -- Crystal will begin her
eighth year on the Saints coaching staff, her fifth year as head coach.
Crystal, an Aquinas alumni, was a pitcher at Aquinas ('98-'99)
until a shoulder injury cut her career short. Crystal's coaching
experience includes a 1 year stint at Grand Rapids Community College,
as well as a pitching instructor for veteran softball coach at
Tom Judson's (Northview) Positive Mental Attitude Pitching Camp and well as currently working as a pitching instructor at Elite Baseball & Softball. |
| |
| In 2007-08 the Saints posted an impressive 31-14 record, under their first year coach. The team placed 2nd in the conference and was the #3 seed in the Regional Tournament. Crystal is also the associate athletic director of operations for the Aquinas College
Athletic Department. Crystal resides in Byron Center with her
husband, Chris, an Aquinas alumni, and daughter, Cierra, son, Luke, and newest edition Evie. |

Season Outlook |
| |
The 2012 Saints finished the regular season in third place in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. Aquinas proceeded to take second place in the WHAC Tournament as they were victorious in four of their six games in Battle Creek. Overall the Saints finished the season with a record of 30-22-1.
In the spring of 2013, the Lady Saints are back in action. The team is coming out firing on all cylinders ready to take on the competition. The fireworks start in March when the Saints head down to sunny Arizona for the Tucson Invitational Games. The Saints will square off with quality competition, grooming them for the rigorous WHAC conference schedule that lies ahead.
Aquinas will be led this year by an exceptional group of seniors. Senior Captains, Renae Tubergen and Carlie Giarmo, are striving to be the heart and soul of the team this year. The duo is striving for nothing less than WHAC championship and a spot in the National Championships.
Tubergen will be directing the outfield this year as the Saint’s center fielder. Renae is a returning captain and a WHAC All-Conference team member. Last year, Tubergen led the Saints in doubles and had the second highest batting average. Renae will look to build off last season’s success and close out her career as one of the greats to dawn the maroon and white.
Giarmo will once again look to be “rock solid” on the mound for the Saints. Carlie’s teammates relish in the fact that they do not have to face her in the batter’s box. Giarmo was a member of the WHAC All-Conference team in 2011 and pitched a perfect game against Rochester College in 2012.
Also playing a starring role for the Saints’ senior class are Courtney Bishop and Lindsey Stewart. Bishop joined the softball program after two years at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Courtney has transition well into a Saints uniform. Bishop was very solid defensively last year for the Saints and has shown great leadership both on and off the field.
Stewart’s strength is “kick starting” the Aquinas offense at the beginning of the Saints’ lineup. In 2012, Stewart hit over .300 and had five stolen bases. The Saints possess a variety of quick feet this year with Lindsey teaching the girls how to be smart as well as fast. These two athletes will round out the outfield with Tubergen. The savvy and veteran outfield will prove to be one of the Saints biggest assets in 2013.
The Saints will begin their season with a 15 game slate in their annual spring trip to Arizona.
