Goals & Student Learning Outcomes

 
Department Goals
The goals of the Biology Department are to provide biology majors with:
  1. a background in biology that will prepare them to pursue careers in the life sciences and/or health professions
  2. technical and critical thinking skills they will need in such careers
  3. an appreciation of the importance of scientific literacy in the modern world.
 
Student Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete a biology major at Aquinas will be able to demonstrate:
  1. content knowledge in the areas of:
    (a.) molecular biology and genetics
    (b.) cellular structure, function and energetics
    (c.) taxonomy, systematics and biological diversity
    (d.) ecology and evolution
  2. competence in basic laboratory techniques
  3. proficiency in scientific writing
