Harwood Hoover Dr. Harwood Hoover
Department Chairperson
Professor of Business Administration
Phone: (616) 632-2931
E-mail: hoovehar@aquinas.edu
Woody Hoover was raised in Tokyo, Japan and northwest suburban Chicago. He left Chicago to take a Navy scholarship at the University of Colorado where he was active in student government. Upon his graduation, the Navy assigned him to a destroyer where he served as gunnery officer and later as combat information officer during Vietnam area operations. Upon leaving the Navy, Woody joined the Martin Marietta Corporation (now Lockheed Martin) where he took over the West Michigan sales territory for the company's aluminum division. He found that selling forged pistons, sheet, plate and extrusions was a great way to learn about the industrial economy firsthand.
Woody finished his MBA at Western Michigan University and was offered a position at Martin Marietta Corporate headquarters in Washington D.C., but he and his wife decided that they wanted to stay in their lakefront house in Michigan. Woody went to work for the Upjohn Company (Pharmacia and Upjohn) as a Market Analyst, and later joined Amway where he served as Supervisor of Market Plans. Joining Aquinas as adjunct faculty, Woody later took a full time position. He completed his Ph.D. in Business Administration at Michigan State. Since completing his graduate work, he has kept busy as a teacher, administrator, author, consultant, township planner, church leader and most importantly, husband and father.

Ron Visscher Ron Visscher
Assistant Professor of Business Administration
Phone: (616) 632-2426
E-mail: visscron@aquinas.edu
Ron was raised in East Grand Rapids, has worked on five continents and lives with his spouse and four children in Holland, Michigan. His career has involved work with large organizations, such as Daimler-Benz, Bridgestone (Firestone), IBM, Whirlpool and the United Nations. He also has significant experience with small entrepreneurial companies serving diverse clients in multiple sectors. A common approach throughout his career has been to design, develop and apply technology from a marketing and managerial perspective, i.e. in a way that satisfies market needs and creates competitive advantage. This approach has led to opportunities in R&D and new product development, e.g. software and other IT.
Ron has a Masters in Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and has finished all but the dissertation for the Ph.D. in Evaluation. Evaluation is a specialized area of managerial science that uses applied research methods, such as needs assessment and regression analysis, to determine (potential and actual) value created (or destroyed) as a result of different business decisions from individual, group and societal perspectives. He is thrilled with the opportunity to pass on his practical management experiences and technical skills to Aquinas students interested in becoming agents for positive change within their chosen fields and communities.
