Chair, Professor of Business Administration

Woody Hoover was raised in Tokyo, Japan and northwest suburban Chicago. He left Chicago to take a Navy scholarship at the University of Colorado where he was active in student government. Upon his graduation, the Navy assigned him to a destroyer where he served as gunnery officer and later as combat information officer during Vietnam area operations. Upon leaving the Navy, Woody joined the Martin Marietta Corporation (now Lockheed Martin) where he took over the West Michigan sales territory for the company's aluminum division. He found that selling forged pistons, sheet, plate and extrusions was a great way to learn about the industrial economy firsthand.

Woody finished his MBA at Western Michigan University and was offered a position at Martin Marietta Corporate headquarters in Washington D.C., but he and his wife decided that they wanted to stay in their lakefront house in Michigan. Woody went to work for the Upjohn Company (Pharmacia and Upjohn) as a Market Analyst, and later joined Amway where he served as Supervisor of Market Plans. Joining Aquinas as adjunct faculty, Woody later took a full time position. He completed his Ph.D. in Business Administration at Michigan State. Since completing his graduate work, he has kept busy as a teacher, administrator, author, consultant, township planner, church leader and most importantly, husband and father.
