Self
Assessment Tools [Top] |
| Career Services
can help you identify your unique skills, abilities, interests
and values in order to make choices about career paths and to
establish career goals. Self-assessment tools; including the
MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), COPS (Career Occupational
Preference System) are available to guide you through the self-assessment
process and prepare you for career exploration. These tools will
allow you to identify your unique personality type and preferences
and assess how those indicators relate to career paths and choices.
Career Counselors are available to discuss the results of any
of the assessment tools. Many of these tools are presented and
utilized in Co-Curricular courses. |

| A variety
of programs resources and services are available to give Aquinas
students the opportunity to explore career options and choices.
Career counselors are available to meet with students on an individual
basis. Co-Curricular classes, taught by CCS staff, guide students
through career exploration exercises. The Career Service
Resource Library houses a wide variety of career exploration
books;
computers are available for web-based research. |

Search Preparation [Top] |
| Developing
a successful job search campaign is a multi-step process requiring
specific knowledge, skills and abilities. Career Counselors,
Co-Curricular courses, the Career Resource Library and How-To
Guides are available to help you gain the skills and confidence
you will need to develop a successful job search campaign. Students
can schedule individual appointments with career counselors at
any stage of their job search. Counselors are available to provide
valuable assistance with resume development, cover
letter writing,
interviewing, and networking skills. You can also meet with a
counselor to discuss the process of building your employment
portfolio. |

| eRecruiting is
Aquinas' web-based recruiting system. In eRecruiting you can establish your profile for employers to view, upload your resume to resume books that are organized by career area and search for local, national and international positions. eRecruiting supports over 500 university career centers and positions posted to these universities are often available to you. |

Career Fairs
are generally one day events that provide access to employer
interviews and informational sessions. They also provide an environment
where you can polish your interviewing and networking skills.
Career counselors encourage students to consider attending these

Pursuit

Meet and greet employers in the morning session with an opportunity for an extended interview in the afternoon.
Job Pursuit is a consortium of private, independent Michigan colleges and universities with the purpose of sponsoring and hosting an annual job fair. It is unique in that allows employers to conduct pre-screening interviews in the morning and 20 minute follow up interviews for selected candidates scheduled for the afternoon. Employers have the opportunity to interact with over 350 students from Michigan's top private colleges.
Established in 1978, Job Pursuit is the oldest collegiate job fair consortium in Michigan. Event details can be found at www.jobpursuit.org

| On-Campus
Interviews |
| Throughout
the academic year, employers will conduct on-campus interviews
for qualified candidates. Employers often set up recruiting tables
prior to these interviews to give prospective candidates the
opportunity to drop off their resumes and learn more about their
organization. A current on-campus interview schedule is maintained
on eRecruiting.
Upcoming interviews are also widely advertised on campus and
in student publications. |

| Teacher
Credential Services [Top] |
| Educational
students who are certified to teach can use Teacher Credential
services in their job search efforts. Career Services staff will
maintain your individual file containing the credential information
required for application to teaching positions. When you have
chosen a position for which you would like to apply, complete the Teacher Credential Request Form and click on sumbmit. Upon receipt of your request, our staff will
ensure that your application materials are certified by Career and Counseling Services and mailed promptly. There is a minimal processing fee
for each credential file sent. |

| Note:
School districts notice when job applicants follow the application
procedures the district has stated in their job posting. Therefore,
it is suggested that you only request credential packets be sent
to those districts which have asked that the credentials be sent
along with your resume and cover letter. Please pay attention
to their directions. |

| Graduate/Professional
School Preparation [Top] |
| Many graduates
choose to continue their education on a full-time or part-time
basis, either immediately after completing the bachelor's degree
or at a later date. Graduate school catalogs and staff consultations
are available to assist students and alumni considering and/or
pursing graduate school application. Research information on
a variety of schools and programs are also available. Twice a
year, practice exams for the MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT are given
on campus to provide an opportunity to experience what the tests
will be like. Practice test schedules are available in the office
of the Dean of Student Development. Career Services maintain
an up-to-date list
of websites which offer information on graduate
school choices, testing, financial aid and other matters pertaining
to your post baccalaureate education. |

| The Career
Services Resource Library is available to students during regular
business hours. The library contains books, and periodicals to
assist you with career exploration, job search strategies, graduate
school research and more. Information on specific employers and
graduate schools is also on file. Computers are available for
those who need to work on resumes and cover letters or do web-based
career research. |
