FAQ's - (Frequently Asked Questions)

Network Access for New Employees: All Aquinas faculty and staff are eligible for network access. The standard account includes:

  • access to Windows XP and numerous Windows-based applications
  • an email account
  • access to the Internet

The requirements are as follows:

Full-Time Faculty & Full/Part-Time Staff:
The requested access must come from the employee's supervisor (or department chair).
The employee's supervisor (or department chair) must submit a request form (available on campus only) to ITS to indicate and authorize what the network access requirements are. An important detail to remember to specify is if the employee is authorized to access the department's G-drive.

The employee must be authorized by Human Resources. ITS must receive authorization that the person is covered under one of the code of conduct handbooks (faculty or staff). Full-time faculty and full- and part-time staff are authorized by the Human Resources (HR) department. Part-time (adjunct) faculty are authorized by the Provost/Dean of Faculty office.

Part-time (adjunct) Faculty
The authorization for part-time (adjunct) faculty must be approved by the Provost’s office. New faculty can ask either the Provost’s office or their department chair to initiate the process by submitting a Novell Account Access Request Form to ITS. If the adjunct will require access to department-specific data (such as a departmental G-drive), then an access request form must be sent to ITS by the adjunct's departmental chair/supervisor authorizing such access. If no G:/ drive access is needed, approval is only required from the Provost's office.

After completion of the appropriate access requirements, requests are processed on user maintenance days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Requests authorized and approved before noon on a user maintenance day will be processed and be ready for pickup that day after 4 p.m. Passwords can be picked up in person with picture ID or by a supervisor at the ITS Helpdesk. Please note: Elm passwords will be available but may not be active for an additional 24 hours. Requests received after noon on a user maintenance day will be available after 4 p.m. on the next user maintenance day.

Everyone using the Aquinas College network will be required to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) each time they login. Use of the Aquinas College network constitutes agreement with the Acceptable Use Policy and the user accepts responsibility of all use of their account. Any violation of the terms of the AUP may result in revocation of access, disciplinary action, and/or legal action. Click here to view the Acceptable Use Policies (AUP).

This session includes an introduction to the Aquinas network, Email, Calendar, our Aquinas Online Knowledge Base, and available resources for on-line training.  This also gives new employees an opportunity to become familiar with such issues as computer equipment reservations and student network access.

To schedule a Network Orientation Session please call the Help Desk at x2050 or send an email to techhelp@aquinas.edu and someone will contact you shortly to set up a time to meet.  Please include in the email:
