Designed for the elementary or secondary teacher who desires an ESL K-12 Endorsement. The Master in the Art of Teaching with ESL K-12 endorsement requires a minimum of 36 credit hours. Pursuing ONLY the ESL Endorsement requires a minimum of 24 credit hours (courses with asterisk *).
 

Foundational Core Courses: 9 credit hours

EN 610   Inquiry-Based Literacy and Differentiated Instruction (3 credit hours)

EN 510   Research Methods, Design and Analysis (3 credit hours); 2nd to last class

EN 690   Master Teaching Project (3 credit hours); last class

NOTE: EN 610 should be taken as part of the first 18 hours of this planned program in order to qualify for Professional Certification

 

ESL Endorsement Required Courses: 24 credit hours

EN 543   Linguistically & Culturally Responsive Teaching Practice (3 credit hours)*

EN 557   Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language (3 credit hours)*

EN 558   Advanced Methods and Materials of Teaching ESL (3 credit hours)* Prerequisite: EN 557

EN 559   Assessment and Evaluation in ESL (3 credit hours)* Prerequisite: EN 557

EN 576   Second Language Acquisition (3 credit hours)*

EN 596   School and Culture in the 21st Century (3 credit hours)*

EN 771   Theories of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism (3 credit hours)*

EN 794   Practicum: ESL Education (3 credit hours)* Prerequisite: All required ESL coursework

NOTE: A passing score on the State subject area test in English as a Second Language is required prior to adding the endorsement.
