Secondary Education Endorsement (Graduate)

Designed for the certified elementary teacher who wishes to add a secondary endorsement. The candidate must be endorsed (major and minor) in areas recognized as appropriate by the Michigan Department of Education and available at Aquinas College. Passing scores on subject area tests are required by the Michigan Department of Education if not previously accomplished. The practicum requirement is dependent upon the teaching experience of the candidate.


The Master in the Art of Teaching with Secondary Education Endorsement requires a minimum of 36 credit hours. Pursuing ONLY the Secondary Education Endorsement requires a minimum of 21 credit hours (courses with asterisk *).

 

Foundational Core Courses: 15 credit hours

EN 544 Language Acquisition and Teaching (3 credit hours)

EN 561 Assessing Student Learning (3 credit hours)

EN 596 School and Culture in the 21st Century (3 credit hours)

EN 510 Research Methods, Design and Analysis (3 credit hours), 2nd to last class

EN 690 Master Teaching Project (3 credit hours), Last class

 

Requirements For Secondary Endorsement: 15 credit hours

EN 508 Applications of Learning Theory of Secondary Students (3 credit hours)*

EN 553 Secondary Methods (3 credit hours)*

EN 554 Content Area Literacy (3 credit hours)*

EN 599 Practicum: Secondary (3 credit hours)* (Depending on teaching experience of individual candidate)

EN 610 Inquiry-Based Literacy and Differentiated Instruction (3 credit hours)*

NOTE: EN 610 should be taken as part of the first 18 hours of this planned program in order to qualify for Professional Certification

 

Required Electives: select 6 credit hours; 9 if practicum is waived*
