Classroom Assistants

Children's Ministry Volunteers

The Sprouts Program, part of Greenhouse Ministries (located in the Common Ground Church Building at 1513 East Fulton), is in need of volunteers to work 25 children between the ages of 0-15 on Sunday evenings. Services take place at 6:15, followed by a community meal. There would be some occasional weekday prep time in addition to a two-hour committment on Sunday evenings. Christine Chamberlain, the Sprouts-Children's Ministry Coordinator welcomes all volunteers to work with children from the Eastown neighborhood. Christine can be contacted at 616-828-2705. 9/21/09
 
Math Tutors
The Rockford Public Schools Adult Education Program would like volunteers to assist their adult students working toward a GED achieve, minimally, a 9th grade mathematics proficiency level as required by the state Department of Education. Tutoring in fractions, basic math, pre-algebra, and geometry is desired. Currently, the ratio of adults who need assistance to the math teacher is 25:1! Classes are held Thursday evening at River Valley High School (in the Rockford Administration Bldg.) from 5:10-9:10 pm. Math Tutors
Cedar Springs Elementary Schools are seeking volunteer math tutors for 2nd through 5th graders. Tutors would work with small groups or individual students on math concepts and facts. The hours are flexible - between 8:45 am and 3:30 pm, approximately two to five times per week. Contact Cristi Bentley @ 696-1204 ext. 6013. 10/08/09
 
Field Trip Volunteers

Get involved at Blandford Nature Center! The Center is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love the outdoors and working with kids to help lead field trip programs during the week. Groups range from pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade.

Gang Intervention Program
The Hispanic Center is implementing a new and exciting gang intervention program for Hispanic males, ages 14 to 21. These youth are struggling with gang affiliation and are seeking a life without violence. Volunteering as a tutor or mentor in this program can be extremely rewarding. Conductive Learning Center

Classroom aide volunteers are sought to assist with a summer camp for children with motor impairments. The camp runs from July 12 - August 6, 2010 and is for students from the fields of education, medicine or therapeutic services who wish to gain experience working with special needs children.
