Since 2009, Elizabeth taught a variety of classes for the Aquinas history department
and for the Women's Studies Program, which includes Women in American History, Introduction
to Women's Studies, Sister Stories Oral History, Irish History, American History,
World History and East Asian History. Her research interests include Catholic Women
Religious, the intersection of religion and gender, and the social justice activism
of Catholic Women Religious. She received her B.A. from Aquinas College, her M.A.
from Central Michigan University, and her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Her Ph.D.
dissertation, "Sisters of Social Justice: The Social Justice of the Grand Rapids Dominican
Sisters," examines the late twentieth-century activism of the Grand Rapids Dominican
Sisters, the ways in which communities perceived their social justice activism, and
the opposition they sometimes faced because of their activism. Dr. Chamberlain has
presented on a variety of topics, including the history of domestic abuse, women in
the civil rights movement, women's suffrage movement, and Catholic Women Religious.
