Why Should You Study French at Aquinas College?

We live in multicultural communities. By becoming fluent in French you will be able to be a part of and participate in both local and international affairs.

Speaking French will enhance your resume making you an asset to any company. Globalization and technology are eliminating cultural and social borders. A bilingual employee has better work opportunities and is more likely to succeed in the corporate world.

Approximately 300 French company operations are located in Michigan (French American Chamber of Commerce). French is also the foreign language spoken by our largest trading partner, Canada. The province of Quebec alone is the sixth largest trading partner of the United States.

“While any language will be useful for some jobs or for some regions, French is the only foreign language that can be useful throughout the world as well as in the United States” (Source)

“French is spoken by over 300 million people in over 50 countries on every continent making it and English the world’s only truly global languages” (Source)

Aquinas College is also an approved examination center of the Paris Chamber of Commerce. Students may take the Diplôme de Français des Affaires ler degré de la Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris at Aquinas College. This French diploma, identical to the one taken in France, is highly respected in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Students who succeed in obtaining this certificate have an in-depth knowledge of the French language and can work in any business related field. The course FH 413 prepares students for the certification in Business French.

At Aquinas College, the Department of Modern Languages connects deep understanding and exploration of language with the kind of broad, interdisciplinary study that you can only get at a liberal arts institution - and enables you to put your learning into practice through study abroad, service-learning, and internship opportunities
