Mike Williams, Ph.D., is Emeritus Professor with graduate degrees in Urban Education, Mechanical Engineering, and Philosophy. He co-founded the Community Leadership Major with (current Grand Rapids mayor) George Heartwell in 1999. He also served the College as Dean of the School of Education before returning to the program 2010.
 
He serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations in Grand Rapids and was active in the neighborhood movement, serving as President of the Eastown Community Association and the then city-wide Council of Neighborhood Associations. Before coming to Aquinas in 1974, he founded what became the first charter school in the State of Wisconsin, Highland Community School of Milwaukee. He has published several books on neighborhood associations, and one on the Highland School. He has lived in Eastown for the past 35 years.
