| Serials FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) |
|
| The Grace Hauenstein Library Serials Collection |
| The Grace Hauenstein Library subscribes to approximately 900 periodicals and newspapers. To find out which titles we subscribe to, you may do a Journal Title search in the TomCat for specific titles. Or, you may browse the current calendar year's issues of most periodicals in the Current Periodical area. Many periodicals are also available in full-text electronic form through our databases. Others are available directly on the Internet. Check our Full-text journal list to see what we have access to! |

| Differences
Between a Serial, Periodical, Magazine, and Journal |
| Serials and periodicals generally
refer to the same type of publication, anything that is
published periodically. All magazines, newspapers and journals
are serials/periodicals. Magazines and journals, on the
other hand, refer to specific types of serials. For information about the differences between popular and scholarly periodicals, please visit: http://www.valpo.edu/library/user/scholarly.html |

| Other
Information about Serials for Faculty |
| Faculty members
are encouraged to participate in the development of the Serials
Collection. Contact Jen Laird at lairdjen@aquinas.edu to be put on the routing list of specific journals.
As the inflation rate for journals is above-average, we cannot
order all the journals requested. Usually, we order them on
a replacement basis so requests for new periodical subscriptions
should have the approval of the entire department. |
