Reference Books are great resources to use at the beginning of your research because they can provide an overview of your topic, including good background information and a discussion of the important issues and concerns of the topic.

  • AAHPERD: American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance Official site for the AAHPERD. Contains information about AAHPERD's six national associations, plus many links to related sites.

  • MedlinePlus is "one-stop shopping" for authoritative, understandable consumer health information; besides sections for specific diseases, it includes the ADAM Medical Encyclopedia, several dictionaries, US Pharmacopeia, drug information, breaking news, and directories fo hospitals, doctors, nursing homes, and other health-related organizations.
  • PE Central is a site for physical education teachers, students, interested parents and adults. Our goal is to provide the latest information about contemporary developmentally appropriate physical education programs for children and youth.   • ACSM: American College of Sports Medicine The American College of Sports Medicine promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life.
  • Center for Disease Control Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide a web site that allows Boolean searching of the CDC Web site as well as health topics A-Z.
  • Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs is a non-profit agency that accredits programs representing 18 allied health professions recognizing over 1900 allied health education programs in more than 1300 institutions.
  • Human Kinetics is a major publisher of books concerning human activity. The website contains a "wealth of valuable information for faculty, students and all interested in exercise, fitness, physical activity or health."
  • National Athletic Trainers Association whose mission is to "...advance the profession of athletic training through education and research in the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries
  • NCAA Sports Library The NCAA Sports Library is a collection of more than 50 publications offered annually by the Association. These publications include rules books, statistical and instructional manuals, records books, videocassettes and other publications published specifically for NCAA member institutions.
