FAQs

What is sustainable business?
Sustainable Business is a non-traditional business strategy that concurrently builds profits and economic stability, restores the health of natural systems, and promotes prosperous and healthy communities. The movement began in Europe over 20 years ago, and the United States followed soon after.

Sustainable business is a redesign of traditional business that emphasizes the simultaneous production of financial, natural world, and social value without the negative externalities.

What competencies can a graduate of the Master in Sustainable Business (MSB) program expect to receive?
Graduates of the program will clearly understand the relevancy and vital components of sustainable business and will be able to take a leadership role inside a variety of existing organizations that have committed to the movement.

What types of careers are available to students with an MSB?
Principles and practices of sustainability are applicable for virtually every type of organization - extractive, processing, manufacturing, and service; sole proprietorships to multinational companies; for-profit and non-profit; and all levels of government. A graduate of this program is qualified for productive employment in any of these sectors.

What makes the sustainable business graduate program at Aquinas College different from other disciplinary-based graduate programs?
Our graduate degree program embeds triple top-line value-producing principles, along with the ability to apply these principles to real-life situations, into the foundation of the program. Other programs often treat sustainable business as an add-on supplement to conventional business strategies. The Aquinas MSB degree also insures competencies in conventional business, the natural world, the human community, and the interdependencies among these three components.
