Information
The Aquinas College Jazz Camp is designed for musicians entering 8th Grade—finishing high school, but can be adjusted for the college student looking for college credit or the adult musician looking to advance their skills!
Location: Aquinas College Art & Music Center
Classes: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Lunch: Noon - 12:50 p.m.)
Performance: Jazz Camper Performance is Friday, June 19 at 2 p.m. in the Art and Music Center. Faculty Concert is Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kretschmer Recital Hall.
Camp Fees: The fee for day campers is $250, which includes all materials, classes, lunches, and a camp T-shirt. The fee for overnight campers is $450 total, which includes all of the above in addition to room and board.
Dorm Check-In: Dorm check-in is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 14.
Camp Placement: Mandatory camp introductions, placement level auditions, theory test, and elective selections for all students will begin at 3 p.m.
College Credit: College students may apply for college credit.
Auditions for Jazz Camp: The students may choose any prepared piece, classical or jazz, with which to audition. The excerpt doesn't have to be more than one minute long. The piece they choose should be something they've had prepared for a while and something they feel very confident about. The point is to hear them play something they feel confident about, whatever that might be. We will be able to tell quite a lot about their proficiency from the pieces they choose and how well they play them. We need to hear each student playing in a confident manner before we ask them to read music and improvise over a B-flat blues for us. When we ask them to read music and improvise for us, we will get a perspective on how they handle unprepared material. >More Information
 
Schedule
  • Camp Classes, Activities, & Curriculum: Continuous from 9 to 11:50 a.m.; Lunch - Noon to 12:50 p.m.; resuming from 1 to 5 p.m.
    Combos, big bands, faculty concerts, concerts featuring students with faculty, master classes, and electives: jazz theory & analysis, jazz composing & arranging, jazz styles & rhythmic exploration, jazz keyboard accompaniment, and jazz styles & performance techniques (interpretation and improvisation).   • Overnight Camper Schedule:
    Breakfast: 8 to 8:50 a.m.
    Dinner: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
    Evening Activity: 7 to 10 p.m.
    Lights Out: 11:30 p.m.

Registration
Camp Enrollment
To enroll, mail a $25 (non-refundable) deposit (or the full amount) payable to “Aquinas College” with the camp registration form (pdf).

Please Note: An additional administrative fee of $30 will be applied to late registrations received after May 31, 2015. Full payment is required at the time of registration for the Summer Jazz Camp. We accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard (please include full name stated on credit card, complete address, expiration date and 3 digit V#).
