Biography

Giuseppe Lupis’s piano music has been heard across the globe, from the Beijing Conservatory to the Copenhagen Opera House, from the Berlin Philharmonic to the Martha Argerich Present Project; through a substantial list of countries, and across major cities like Sidney, New York, Chicago, Vancouver, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Seoul, Tel Aviv, Munich, Rome, Madrid, Brussels, London, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Oslo; from the BBC to ABC Australia, Hungarian, Danish, Swiss, Italian, Vatican broadcasting; and through a series of recordings.

Lupis’ pedal piano arrangement of Gounod’s Marche funebre d’une marionette, has been recorded on DVD and performed extensively by Roberto Prosseda, including in a 2018 Spanish concert season featuring also Mitsuko Uchida, Grigory Sokolov, YuJa Wang, Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Benjamin Grosvernor, Deszö Ranki, Jan Lisieki, and conductor Gustavo Dudamel. To date, this is the most performed pedal piano work in the world.

Duo Miroirs realized, and toured with, a four-hand arrangement of Lupis’ 8 Variations, One Crazy, on Ah! Vous Dirai-je Maman, which can be enjoyed on CD and DVD by Limen Music. Lupis’ music has additionally been performed and presented in academic settings such as Harvard, and the Peabody Conservatory.

ICMA Young Artist of the Year 2013 Alessandro Mazzamuto has commissioned Lupis a piano concerto. Pianist Alessandro Vena just recorded Lupis’ Approximately 5 Preludes for Sheva Collection, while planning to record Lupis’ entire piano output in 2019. Early works will be soon available as recorded by pianist Hyunjung Rachel Chung.

Lupis’ is also a concert pianist. He has taught piano for twenty-six years, spending the last sixteen in the American academia. He currently teaches piano as adjunct faculty at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lupis holds a Doctorate from the University of Georgia.
