Aquinas did an excellent job over the other participating schools: Calvin College, Hope College, Grand Valley State, University of Michigan Dearborn, Spring Arbor and Kalamazoo College. Says Dr. Roger Durham, advisor of the AQ students "[We] did very well. The students did a tremendous job of research and role-play. Each delegate understood their positions and articulated them appropriately. Mr. Guliano and Mr. Squiers did a nice job of verbalizing Muammar Gaddafi!"

1999 Model Arab League
Aquinas Participates in Second Model Arab League
AQ participated in its second Michigan Model Arab League February 25, 26 and 27, 1999. We role-played delegates from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan and Morocco on a number of committees dealing with a range of important international issues. The Egyptian delegation won an Outstanding Delegation: Honorable Mention and a number of individual students also won awards.

This experience provided students with chances to practice and exhibit a multitude of skills including, but not limited to leadership, public speaking, critical thinking, role playing, diplomacy, and social etiquette. This is a very rigorous academic exercise for which these students began preparing in January. The other participating schools were Kalamazoo College, GVSU, Hope College, Calvin College, University of Michigan, Dearborn and Spring Arbor College. Aquinas College represented five countries. No other school represented more than two.
