She designed the first edition of the map that now directs visitors and students along the campus trails. Sister Annabel: master teacher, lover of nature and source of inspiration to students of all ages. Sister Annabel brought a marvelous spirit of dedication to her students; they were her primary concern. Students knew they were expected to achieve and made every effort to share their dreams with her. Sister Annabel also enjoyed a good laugh and her enthusiasm for the interdependence of all living things was expressed in her love of nature. |

| Richard McCormick Society (1921-1990): Gifts $50,000+ |
| “The consummate scholar and gentleman and a wonderful mentor to our students,” Richard McCormick provided encouragement for them to attend a wide variety of medical schools-both M.D. and D.O.- in Michigan and other states. It was said that he knew every doctor in town. He raised four children with his wife Georgiana during his 23 years at Aquinas. Following military service, a Master’s in chemistry from Notre Dame, and a stint as a pharmaceutical representative, Dick taught chemistry at Aquinas from 1960 until his retirement in 1983. Over a seven-year period his Aquinas golf teams won many matches against outstanding opponents. |

| Sister Jean Paul Tilmann Society (1928-1984): Gifts $25,000 to $49,999 |
| Raised on a farm with two brothers and three sisters, geography professor Sister
Jean Paul Tilmann, learned at an early age to share and to love and enjoy the
marvels of the earth. Her successful $1 million grant received from the Kellogg Foundation helped develop the Environmental Studies major and the Eastown Project. She had a deep love for community and was a dedicated scholar and academic leader. Sister Jean Paul began teaching at Aquinas in 1965 after serving as an elementary school principal and then completing her Ph.D. in geography. When she started at Aquinas, there was only one part-time geography faculty member and no geography major. Her efforts enabled the first geography majors to graduate in 1972. |

| Dr. John Poje Society (1915-1989): Gifts $5,000 to $24,999 |
| Affectionately referred to as “Doc”, chemistry professor Dr. John Poje befriended, inspired and guided the career decisions of many students. John was born to Croatian immigrants who worked in the Kansas City meat-packing plants. At the age of 14, he attended barber school and later supported himself as a barber during his first year of college. After five years in the military, John completed his Ph.D. in chemistry. He began his 36-year teaching career at Aquinas in 1950. Serving as a consultant to several local companies, Dr. Poje received a U.S. Patent for a quick-release coating for ovenware. In 1998 a scholarship was established in his memory. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding chemistry student whose activities and career goals demonstrate a desire to serve society. |

| St. Albertus Magnus Society (1200-1280): Gifts $1 to $4,999 |
| “The aim of natural science is not simply to accept the statements of others, but to investigate the causes that are at work in nature.” Albertus Magnus advocated for the scientific approach to studying the real world and was made patron of natural scientists by Pope Pius XII. Born in what is now Germany, Albertus studied nature as a child and was sent to study in Italy where he met the Dominican order of priests and eventually became one. He later served as bishop of Regensburg. Albertus was a teacher of natural science and taught St. Thomas Aquinas, O.P. He isolated arsenic in 1250, the first element to be isolated since antiquity, and the first with a known discoverer. Albertus' prolific writings and encyclopedic knowledge of topics included logic, theology, botany, geography, astronomy, mineralogy, chemistry, zoology and physiology. He was the most widely read author of his time. |
