| SAFE ZONE |
| |
| |
| The Campus Life Staff is pleased to launch the SAFE ZONE initiative this fall! |
| |
 |
| What is a SAFE ZONE? |
| A SAFE ZONE is a place of equality and non-judgment for all individuals who gather in, or travel to, that space on the Aquinas College campus. |
|
|
| |
|
What does SAFE ZONE mean? |
|
By making your space a SAFE ZONE, you are accepting a responsibility to the College and our community by stating that regardless of individual differences in faith, gender, orientation, and culture, you value diversity. Bigotry, favoritism, harassment, and discrimination will not be tolerated. |
| |
|
Who can create a designated SAFE ZONE? |
|
Anyone! Whether you are a student, a staff member, or a faculty member, you are invited to participate. |
| |
|
How will people know that my space is a SAFE ZONE? |
|
People will notice the SAFE ZONE logo, created specifically for Aquinas College. It is a design that incorporates multiple faiths, gender, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender awareness, culture, equality, and peace. This design is the prominent image on the SAFE ZONE posters that were created for you to display in your space. |
| |
|
How do I make my space a SAFE ZONE? |
|
it's easy! Stop by the Campus Life Office on the main level of the Cook Carriage House to pick up a poster. Or, you can download the poster here, and print it out on your color printer. Display the poster in your office, your residence hall room, or your apartment. |
| |
|
Now that my space is a SAFE ZONE, what does that mean for me? |
| By accepting the responsibility to make your space a SAFE ZONE, it's important that you stay true to the statement on your poster: |
| |
YOU ARE SAFE HERE. |
I value diversity.
Regardless of our differences, you will be treated with respect. |
| |
| In addition, it's your responsibility to hold others to that standard as well. Whether you're in your own personal space that you have designated as a SAFE ZONE, or anywhere on campus, standing up for equality and respecting others is one of the coolest traits you can possess. |
| |
| Other things that you can do: |
- Be sensitive.
- Provide a listening ear.
- Know your resources. (So you can help yourself, or a friend. For more information about resources on campus, contact us!)
- Spread the word. You can help make all of Aquinas a SAFE ZONE!
|
| It is the intent that through this SAFE ZONE initiative, Aquinas College will become an even more diverse environment that promotes peace. |
