Learn How to Ride the Rapid

The Rapid Public Bus System

Using public transportation is a great way to save gas money and green your transportation habits. AQ staff, faculty, and students can use the Rapid for only $0.40 per ride, with a valid Aquinas College ID. That's a savings of over $1 per ride!

Need a Route Map?
Free Rapid route maps available at the front desk of Regina, St. Jospeh and Aquinata Halls. Maps are also available in the Mailroom/Copy Center in lower AB.

How to Ride

Riding the Rapid is as simple as 1-2-3!

  1. Find the route to your destination using a Route Map or the Rapid Web site.
  2. Check the times in your schedule for bus arrival.
  3. Get on the bus, show your AQ ID, and pay the $0.40 fare (cash only)
Note: If you need a transfer to another route, tell the bus driver when you board the bus.

The Rapid Van Pool Program
The Rapid Van Pool Program is perfect for people with long commutes who are interested in "sharing the ride." The Rapid provides vans to vanpooling groups on a month to month basis, for a small fee. Approximately 20 Rapid Vans travel from Lansing, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, and other communities within 60 miles of Grand Rapids. All staff, faculty, and students of Aquinas College who regularly use a Rapid Van Pool, may seek reimbursement up to $22 per month.
Please note: Rapid Van Subsidy costs are paid from a grant by the Steelcase Foundation and the program's existence beyond June 2010 is pending funding.

How to Get Started
1. Contact the Rapid at (616) 774-1188 to find an existing Vanpooling group in your area or to register your own group.
2. Review Aquinas' policies and procedures for the Rapid Van Subsidy Program.
3. Submit a check request and appropriate documentation to Jessica Eimer at x1994 to obtain reimbursement for Van Pool costs paid to the Rapid.
