Alumni at Aquinas College
Distinguished Service Award
We celebrate individuals and partner organizations who have demonstrated significant service to Aquinas College at the annual Welcome Home Reception and Awards Celebration.
2022 Recipient
Sister Mary Ann Barrett, O.P. ‘66
Sister Mary Ann has been steeped in the Dominican tradition from her earliest days growing up in Alpena, MI with her parents and 3 sisters. Her teachers through twelfth grade were the Dominican Sisters of both Adrian and Grand Rapids. She always wanted to be a teacher and truly believe God called her to serve with the Dominicans of Grand Rapids. Upon graduation from Aquinas in 1966, she taught 13 years in the classroom. She was involved in Vocation ministry in the Gaylord Diocese and later with her own Congregation helping others discern God’s life call. She loved her ministry as Director of AQ’s Campus Ministry (’82-’89) and later at the Newman Center at the University of New Mexico (2001-2006) with the Dominican friars. Along the way, she found her voice for Preaching, for Retreat ministry and Parish pastoral work; all these experiences were preparation for serving on our Congregational Leadership Team from 2012-2018. She returned to Aquinas in 2018 where she is now involved in Alumni Engagement programs – discovering new relationships and renewing others – all the while volunteering wherever else her gifts may be used.Eligibility
- Individuals or partner corporations/organizations of the College shall be eligible for the award.
- Time, effort, and monetary gifts on behalf of Aquinas College shall constitute the criteria in considering a candidate for the award. The award may recognize one, two, or three of these elements.
