Aquinas College is partnering with Michigan Colleges Alliance and Education Design Lab to provide students an opportunity to hone specific skills that are deemed very important to employers in hiring recent college graduates. We will launch this pilot program in Spring 2018. Students will apply and be invited to participate. A limited number of spots in the 12 week pilot are available.


  • Connection with area employers, including MVP, Whirlpool, the Gerald Ford Foundation, Arbor Circle and more.
  • Opportunity to build critical thinking skills through a series of readings and exercises.
  • Upon successful completion, a Digital Badge that can be utilized in social media profiles, such as LinkedIn, and in e-portfolios.
  • Flexibility: although there are some required components, the majority of work is completed within the students’ schedules.
  • Substantive answer when asked in an interview, “Tell me about a time when you used critical thinking skills to solve a problem”.



  • A mandatory orientation on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 11 am - 2 pm at the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids. Students will receive an overview of the program and assigned their “problem” to be solved.
  • Approximately 45 total hours (3-4 hours per week over the 12 week program) of hands-on work.
  • Access and use of Aquinas email and Course Connect pages.
  • Sophomore or higher class standing.
  • All majors welcome. No previous work/internship experience needed.
  • Enthusiastic students with an open mind!

Application Process

  • Complete the application form by December 11. *Application is now closed*
  • Accepted candidates will be notified by December 20th.
  • Attend the mandatory orientation on January 24, 2018, from 11 am - 2 pm at the Gerald Ford Museum in Grand Rapids. Lunch and transportation (if needed) will be provided.
