“I am thrilled to participate in ArtPrize: The Michigan Connection at Midland Center for the Arts and I look forward to meeting area art teachers, art students and the community at an event which brings us all together to learn, appreciate and celebrate art at an inspiring venue," said LaPorte.
LaPorte, known for his massive graphite drawing and award-winning ArtPrize entry, Cavalry, will delight art educators, art students, and art aficionados with a lively and introspective look at his journey since winning ArtPrize nearly eight years ago. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions about art education, various techniques, ArtPrize and more.
Following LaPorte's presentation, the entire exhibit, ArtPrize: The Michigan Connection will be open for viewing. Approximately forty artists are expected to show their works during the exhibit which runs through September 9, 2018. Refreshments and a cash bar will be available. Admission is free and open to the public.
LaPorte's Cavalry is in on long-term loan to Aquinas College and is on display in the Grace Hauenstein Library. LaPorte is an Aquinas College alum and an associate professor of art at Aquinas College. He also leads workshops and education programs for art teachers and students.
