Intercessory Prayer During Sing for Joy!

Intercessory prayer is a major aspect of the Sing for Joy! music ministry. Prayer takes place in the Chapel balcony throughout each gathering with at least two people praying simultaneously. The prayer team is focused on lifting up the gathering and the entire Aquinas College community. Those praying as intercessors may sit, stand, or kneel—however they feel comfortable.

They may pray silently or aloud. We ask those praying aloud to remain closely attuned to their teammate(s) and the music being shared. For example, a person praying aloud should speak softly so as not to be overheard by the music makers and also allow plenty of time for silence. A Bible and written prayers are available in the Chapel balcony; however, there are no requirements regarding their use. Each gathering begins with participants praying together at 7:00 p.m.—including the music makers and the two “leadoff” members of the intercessory prayer team. The team then goes to the balcony.

All Aquinas faculty, staff, administration, students, and alumni are welcome to participate in intercessory prayer. Commitments (sign-ups) are needed in advance of each Sing for Joy! gathering (Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. once per month during the regular academic year). There are three overlapping shifts of 35 minutes each: 7:00 to 7:35 p.m., 7:30 to 8:05 p.m., and 8:00 to 8:35 p.m. Those praying during the last two shifts may simply come to the Chapel balcony at 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
