Community Leadership at Aquinas College

Community Leadership: Hands-On Experience

The Community Leadership Program maintains partnerships with many agencies throughout Grand Rapids that host our students for the service portion of the academic program. Each student enrolled in our core courses (Introduction to Community Leadership, Practicum in Community Leadership, and Community Leadership Capstone Seminar) serves 2-15 hours each week at one of our partners every semester.
Our partnering agencies offer a diversity of site experiences to our students, and engage populations in Grand Rapids in a wide range of areas, some of which are listed here:

Growing Our Partners

Each year, the Community Leadership Program looks to create new partnerships and add new community partners to our program. This process is ongoing. We look to offer a diversity of social justice oriented placement options for students in our program. A few criteria we look for in community partners are:

  • At least 50% of service hours available for students are direct service opportunities
  • Regular supervision for students during their time at the placement, as supervisors are required to grade Community Leadership program students
  • Accessible by public transportation

If you are interested in partnering with the Community Leadership Program, please email the faculty director to express your interest.
