Certification Subject-Area Tests

The Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification (MTTC) were created to ensure that every certified teacher has the necessary skills and content knowledge to serve in Michigan schools. Candidates for certification (and added endorsements) must pass the appropriate MTTC subject area tests for the certificate/endorsement sought. This testing can be taken after all program coursework has been completed, either prior to or during the student teaching semester. Information regarding subject area tests, including practice tests and testing dates, is available at the MTTC website.

Legal Notice to All Students Regarding Criminal Convictions:

The State of Michigan tightly regulates the legal acceptability of candidates who wish to become certified teachers. All individuals seeking teacher certification must submit truthful, written responses to the prompts below at multiple points throughout their program. The final decision regarding issuance of teacher certification credentials to candidates answering “yes” to any of the questions regarding legal background information will be determined by the Michigan Department of Education.

  1. Have you ever been convicted of, or pled no contest to, a felony?

  2. Have you ever been convicted of, or pled no contest to, a misdemeanor?

  3. Do you currently have any criminal charges pending against you?

AQ education students are obligated to report any change in their legal status at any point in the program to the School of Education. Falsification of records will result in immediate dismissal from the Aquinas College education program.
