Punk as Alt-White: Forging New Collective Identities and Boundaries?

In prior research I have argued that hardcore punk, skateboarding, and subcultures work as iterative multigenerational ‘technologies of the collective.’ Focusing on hardcore punk, skateboarding, and subcultural practices, my research contributes to the ongoing dialogue about how practice and identity matter to individuals and communities. In this paper, I will continue to develop and bring together questions of how people make social meaning by attempting to cultivate new identities and boundaries by using punk music.
