Financial Wellness
Financial wellness means being able to live within your means and being fiscally responsible. Someone who practices financial wellness is fully aware of their financial state, has an established budget, saves money regularly, and manages their finances in order to achieve realistic goals. Financial wellness includes being able to distinguish between needs and wants when spending money, paying bills regularly, minimizing or reducing debt, and saving for the future.
Ways to enhance this dimension:
- Apply for a job or seek additional employment
- Cut out or cut back on costly habits
- Use free public transportation
- Go to free on-campus or local events
- Shop online, on sales rack, or at thrift shops to find the best deals
- Utilize the library for free resources
- Use your student discount
- Limit eating out by using your meal plan or by meal planning
- Cut back on buying and drinking alcohol
Are you engaged in practicing financial wellness?
- Do I have a financial plan for the coming year?
- Do I have a budget in place to manage my money?
- Do I search for ways to limit my expenses each month?
- Do I know my current loan balance?
If you answered "no" to any of the questions, it may indicate an area where you need to improve the state of your financial wellness.
