Aquinas College was among the list of “National Liberal Arts Colleges” in the U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of the nation’s 2020 Best Colleges, released today (Sep. 9).

This National Liberal Arts Colleges list includes schools that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study.

Aquinas College is listed as a “Top Performer on Social Mobility.” New this year, the list recognizes how well colleges graduated students who received federal Pell grants.

In total, the magazine collected data on more than 1,900 institutions. The magazine started by grouping institutions into categories based on mission and, in some cases, location. It also gathered data from each school in “up to 15 areas related to academic excellence,” including outcomes, graduation and retention rates, graduation rate performance, social mobility, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving.

In previous years, Aquinas College was listed in the “Regional Universities – Midwest” list, but the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s most recent official updates reclassified many institutions and resulted in Aquinas College being listed in a different category for the U.S. News & World Report 2020 Best Colleges Rankings.

“This year, Aquinas College is being recognized on a national stage in a category that recognizes the highest quality liberal arts colleges in the nation,” said President Kevin Quinn. “We prepare our students to lead lives of purpose and success in service to the world. We encourage prospective students and their families to learn more about how Aquinas can help them achieve their goals.”
