Student Wellbeing Advisory Council (SWAC)

Counseling, Health & Wellness Services is seeking students to be a part of the Student Wellbeing Advisory Council for the academic year of 2019-2020. 

Mission & Purpose: The mission of SWAC is to ensure that the wellbeing of Aquinas College’s student body are provided for by the College to the best possible extent. To accomplish this SWAC acts as a liaison between the students, Counseling, Health & Wellness Services (CHWS) and other affiliated administrative bodies.

Membership: Students interesting in serving on the SWAC should submit an application which will be reviewed by Zach Sietsema ( acting advisor for Student Wellbeing Advisory Council. 

Responsibilities & Commitment: Students are expected to meet monthly for approximately 1.5 hours. The appointment for each member is for one full academic year. SWAC members can be reappointed by invitation.

Who is eligible for SWAC? 

Any graduate or undergraduate student currently enrolled at Aquinas College. 

What are the benefits of being involved with the SWAC?

  • Increased familiarity with medical issues, mental health issues and the impact on a individuals wellbeing
  • A gained understanding of how mental health, medical and wellness systems operate
  • Knowledge of how policy influences mental health, medical and wellness issues
  • A greater awareness of what wellness is and ways to improve it on a personal level

How often does SWAC meet?

SWAC is planned to meet once per month. If a different frequency of meetings is decided by the members of SWAC this is subject to change.
