Earth ⊕Image of planet Earth

Earth is uniquely named in that it is the only planet not named after a Greek or Roman god or goddess. Instead, Earth is a Germanic word that means "the ground." Earth is the third planet in the solar system and is roughly 93 million miles (1.00 Astronomical Units) from the sun. A day on Earth lasts 24 hours and a year is approximately 365.25 days. It is a rocky planet with many canyons and mountains. Despite this, 71% of the surface is made up of water, and in fact it is the only planet in the solar system with liquid water on its surface. It has one moon; whose gravitational pull is the reason the oceans have tides. So far, it is the only planet in the universe known to have life.
