Neptune ♆

neptune

Neptune is the only planet in the solar system not visible to the naked eye and was discovered in 1846. It is also the only planet discovered using mathematical calculations, which were gathered based on variances in Uranus' orbit. Neptune is named for the Roman god of water and is the eighth and last of the true planets in the solar system. It is approximately 2.80 billion miles (30.06 Astronomical Units) from the Sun. A day on Neptune takes 16 hours, and one year takes 165 Earth years. Like Uranus, Neptune is an ice giant and its gravity is slightly greater than Earth's. It has five rings and four ring arcs, but unlike Saturn's they are very faint. In 1989, Voyager 2 became the first and only human-made spacecraft to do a fly-by the planet.
