Mission

The mission of the Aquinas College Biology and Health Science Department is to provide an environment that fosters learning, critical thinking, and scientific literacy through courses in molecular, cellular, organismal and environmental biology. Through excellence in classroom instruction, laboratory experiences that support critical concepts and opportunities for independent research, we strive to prepare students to pursue careers in the life sciences and health professions.

We seek

To provide biology and health science majors and minors with the skills and background they will need to pursue careers in the life sciences, compete successfully for positions in graduate and pre-professional programs or gain certification as biology teachers.

To provide students taking specific biology courses to fulfill requirements within other programs of study (nursing, athletic training, psychology, etc.) with the practical knowledge of biology that they will need in their chosen fields.

To provide liberal arts majors with an exposure to the methodologies biologists and medical professionals use to investigate the living world around them, and sufficient background to understand and discuss biological concepts they will encounter in the popular press and media.
