A Statement from Aquinas College President Kevin Quinn on the passing of Mary Ann Keeler

Published on

Aquinas College President Kevin G. Quinn issued the following statement on the passing of Mary Ann Keeler, long-time Saints supporter and friend of the College.

“Mary Ann Keeler has been a tremendous supporter of Aquinas College and the West Michigan community for decades. I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing and am grateful to have constant reminders of her legacy throughout our community—from Cathedral Square to Grand Rapids Public Library, DeVos Place, the Ford Museum, countless iconic public art installations throughout our city, and here on our campus where she was a supporter of the expansion of the Albertus Magnus Hall of Science.

As long-time friends of the College, Mary Ann and her late husband, Miner Spaulding Keeler, supported many initiatives at Aquinas College. They were recipients of our Emeritus Award in 1989. In addition to the Keeler Foundation Nursing Scholarship at Aquinas, Mary Ann was an enthusiastic supporter of our Jane Hibbard Idema Women’s Studies Center, the Aquinas Annual Fund, and most recently, the Sister Mary Weber ’58, O.P. Endowed Scholarship. Mary Ann received an Honorary Degree of Fine Arts from Aquinas in 2005.

We will remember Mary Ann for her vibrant spirit, determination and advocacy for the arts, culture, community engagement and leadership. On behalf of everyone at Aquinas College, I extend our sincere condolences to her beloved family.”
