Alksnis Athletic & Recreation Building
Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building

The Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building is connected to the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center and serves as the home of Aquinas College's men's and women's indoor track and field teams. It features one of only two 200-meter NCAA-certified tracks in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and a turf infield with portable courts for intramural and varsity teams, including baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Thanks to a large curtain system, Alksnis can host multiple programs simultaneously, including Saint Stock and other college events, making it a lively and flexible center for campus athletics.
Construction began in 2013, and when completed the following year, it delivered a world-class, fully connected athletic campus for Saints student-athletes and the broader Aquinas community.

History:
The Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building is named after Greg Alksnis, class of 1971, and his family, whose generous $1.5 million gift made the project possible. Greg is co-owner of Magic Steel Corporation and a former Aquinas Trustee. He was a scholarship athlete at Aquinas, a top performer on the golf team, and one of only three golfers in the region to win the "Grand Slam" of all four local major titles. In 2006, he was inducted into the Aquinas College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Greg Alksnis has said that Aquinas College helped him grow in body, mind, and spirit, and that he has always wanted to support the college’s efforts to encourage a healthy, competitive spirit in its students. The Alksnis family chose to give back as a way to pay forward the opportunities Greg received as a student athlete, showing the lasting impact of the Aquinas experience.
