Stuart Dybek, Professor of English at Western Michigan University, is the author of "I Sailed with Magellan," one of only 26 works included on the highly selective Notable Books of Lists of the American Library Association. Dybek will take part in two events at Aquinas on Wednesday, January 18. At 3:30 p.m., he will talk informally with students in the Loutit Room of Wege Student Center. Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., Dybek will be speaking in the Ballroom of Wege Student Center. Both events are free and the public is welcome.

Dybek has also written two other books of short stories: "The Coast of Chicago" and "Childhood and Other Neighborhood." Two volumes of poetry Dybek has written are "Brass Knuckles" and his 2004's "Streets in Their Own Ink." His work has appeared in such magazines as The Atlantic Monthly, The Iowa Review, Ploughshares, The New Yorker, Harper's and Poetry.

Several honors have been award Dybek for his work including a PEN/Bernard Malamud Prize, a Whiting Writer's Award, several O. Henry Prizes, two Pushcart Prizes and the Lanan Literary Award for fiction. He is one of only a handful of writers to have works published in both "The Best American Short Stories" and "The Best American Poetry" anthologies.
