GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (March 15, 2004) ? Many thanks to all of you who helped make the thirty year run of the Aquinas College Jazz Festival so very memorable. Now, after thirty years of presenting the festival featuring jazz performances by high school, college, and professional musicians, we have decided to pursue this jazz performance and educational event from a different direction.

The growing number of jazz festivals by larger schools with more funding and larger staffs has made it too difficult for the Aquinas College Jazz Festival to compete in the marketplace which appeals to band directors in Michigan and the surrounding states. So, this year we have been exploring a vision for a workshop which will bring professional jazz artists together with high school jazz band students in a mentoring and educational session that will culminate in an evening performance of students and pros. Internationally known jazz educator and our own Instrumental Music Director, Dr. Paul Brewer will keep you posted on this one as we develop it.

Summer Fun! Our annual Aquinas College Jazz Camp (June 20 to 25, 2004) will take place as usual. We have had continuous success with the camp over the years and it just keeps getting better and better. So, if you or someone you know would like more information about the camp please look for the online Registration Form, or contact Dr. Paul Brewer at (616) 632-2416, or email brewepau@aquinas.edu.
