Grand Rapids Poet Linda Nemec Foster will be doing a reading from her new book, Amber Necklace from Gdansk, on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Loutit Room, Aquinas College Wege Student Center. The reading will be followed by a book signing. Sponsor of this free event is the Jane Hibbard Idema Women's Studies Center.

Amber Necklace from Gdansk, inspired by Foster's trip to her family's homeland Poland, reflects on the immigrant experience. Her own attempts to reclaim an ethnic heritage, to search for herself in the mirror of her family's history, resonate throughout her verse. The publication of the full-length collection of poems by Louisiana State University Press was supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts. The book has been nominated for a number of awards including the Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets.

Foster, an Aquinas College alumna, is the author of six poetry collections, most recently Contemplating the Heavens. She conducts workshops for the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs in Grand Rapids.

Consistently ranked one of the top liberal arts colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report, Aquinas College offers an approach to learning and living that teaches students unlamented ways of seeing the world. Founded in 1886 by the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, the College's Dominican tradition of working, service and lifelong learning remains alive today in a diverse student body. Students from more than 22 states and 15 foreign countries are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. Within six months of graduation, nearly all graduates are in full-time jobs, enrolled in professional schools of law, medicine, or dentistry, or in a master or doctoral program.
