Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) is pleased to announce that M. Bridget Clark, a student
at Aquinas College, has been awarded a Venture Grant for her project "Kids Food Basket."
This food rescue program provides an evening meal to undernourished children who are
unlikely to receive an evening meal at home in the Grand Rapids area schools. The
Community Leadership Institute of Aquinas College has collaborated with Kids Food
Basket and placed student Bridget Clark as the Program Coordinator of the food rescue
program. This experiential learning opportunity will empower the student to respond
to an identified need in the community, and will impact 500 school children.
Clark is one of eight award recipients in the 25th Venture Grant cycle. Michigan Campus Compact's Venture Grants are financial awards ranging up to $2,500. Application for Venture Grant funds is open to faculty, staff, and students on MCC member campuses who wish to develop or expand community service programs, service-learning opportunities, and/or civic engagement activities. Project proposals should foster the habit of lifelong involvement in service and/or civic engagement as well as provide innovative models for use at other colleges and universities. Projects must contribute to further developing the institution's community service, service-learning program and/or civic engagement efforts. Community service includes volunteer activities/projects which meet the needs of the community. Service-learning integrates students' academic curriculum with a thoughtfully organized service experience and provides structured opportunities for students to think, talk, or write about their service participation (reflection). Civic engagement includes engaging students in a public purpose, citizenship and/or renewing the civic mission of higher education.
