Academic Building at Aquinas College

Academic BuildingAquinas College's Academic Building, originally known as the Administration Building, has been at the heart of campus life since its 1955 opening. Designed by the Indianapolis firm Bohlen and Son, this three-story building united the college’s separate campuses and gave Aquinas a permanent home on Fulton Street. From day one, it was a lively hub for students and staff, offering classrooms, offices, the library, a chapel, a bookstore, and a cafeteria all under one roof.

The Academic Building has evolved as the college has grown. After the library moved in 2006, the college renovated the second floor and received Silver LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its energy-efficient and eco-friendly improvements. Today, the building remains one of the busiest spots on campus. It is home to many academic and administrative offices, such as the AQ Advantage Center, Campus Ministry, Information Technology Services, Mailroom, School of Education, the Commuter Lounge, and more,Original Academic Building continuing to play a central role in the Aquinas College community.

The architect's original plan for the Administration Building (see image) called for additional wings on the ends of the building to house a chapel and a library. These wings were never constructed, and the library, after a few years of being split between the first and second floors, ended up crammed into the second floor until the 2007 opening of the Grace Hauenstein Library.
