(GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN) – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Aquinas College has selected Mike and Sue Jandernoa to receive its Aquinas 2011 Norbert J. Hruby
Emeritus Award. The Jandernoas were selected to receive the award this year for their
ongoing dedication to improving the lives of individuals living in Grand Rapids and
the surrounding area. They will be recognized at the 28th Aquinas Emeritus Evening
on Tuesday, May 10, in the Aquinas College Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center, 1580 East
Fulton Street, Grand Rapids. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.
As friends of many organizations and institutions, Mike and Sue continue to exemplify all that the award represents through their dedication to the welfare of all citizens throughout the community, while serving as a “light to those who follow.”
Mike joined Perrigo in 1979, a few years after graduating from the University of Michigan. He joined the Perrigo Board in 1981, became the CEO in 1988, and continues to serve as their Lead Independent Director. He recently founded Jandernoa Entrepreneurial Mentoring (JEM), to assist entrepreneurs to better manage and grow their companies. In addition, Mike is a general partner of Bridge Street Capital Fund, a director of Fifth Third Bank of West Michigan, and a director of Steelcase Inc. He also serves on the boards of the Michigan Technology Tri-Corridor and Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Sue, a retired teacher and committed volunteer, has given her time and talent for years to help organizations throughout the community. Sue has dedicated much of her time promoting the health, education, and well-being of children throughout the Grand Rapids community. She is on the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan and was recently invited to join the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation Board.
In the 35th year of the Emeritus College at Aquinas, OLLI continues to serve the intellectual and spiritual needs of a community of adults 50 and over who want to learn solely for the joy of learning. Students can take classes ranging in length from one to four weeks, take trips throughout West Michigan and beyond, attend events with nationally recognized speakers, and visit organizations like the Van Andel Institute, WOOD TV, The Grand Rapids Press, and the Grand Rapids Symphony. As in the past, OLLI brings in top professionals and professors from West Michigan and, by partnering with more community art and cultural organizations, the classes further enhance the goal to give our students greater opportunities to gain insight and knowledge.
