The Aquinas College Theatre Department will present the final preview performances of Writer 1272, a play written by Vincent
Delaney, before its premier production at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Writer 1272 will open on Wednesday, April 1 and run through Saturday, April 4 with
performances at 8 p.m., along with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday,
April 5, at the Aquinas Performing Arts Center, 1703 Robinson Road SE. Ticket prices
are $10 for general admission, $8 faculty and staff, and $4 for students.
The Aquinas Contemporary Writers Series will host a talkback session following the 8 p.m. performance on April 1. The Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series was founded by a grant from Tony Foster, M.D. '73 and Linda Nemec Foster '72. The series kicked off in 1997 by bringing well-known authors to Aquinas College for public readings and workshops with students.
Delaney's Writer 1272 is a dark, comedic play involving high school students trying to perfect their college entrance exams. Students are buying their essays from anonymous writers from the internet underground. Who are these writers? What are their dreams? Mixing high pressure admissions, mistaken identities and exotic desserts, this play is a hilarious take on the world of college admissions.
Delaney's previous plays include The War Party 2008, The Art of Bad Men 2007, Perpetua and Kuwait, which won the Heideman Award. He has taught and held residencies at St. Olaf College, St. Paul, Minnesota; the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota; the Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Delaney is a Core Member of the Playwrights Center and teaches young playwrights in Seattle, Washington.
